B850 vs B650 Motherboard for Ryzen 5 9600X: What’s the Best Budget Option?

I'm trying to figure out which motherboard is the better choice for my Ryzen 5 9600X build: the B850 or the B650? I'd like to know which board might be the best budget option. I'm looking at some MSI models, particularly the MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk ATX, and I want to stay under £180. However, if there's a better and cheaper alternative, I'm definitely open to suggestions!

The B850 is the newer model, so it has some advantages. But if you're looking at budget, the B650 might be the better pick for you.

True, but remember OP mentioned a preference for budget over new. That might change things!

Yeah, I can see that point. It really depends on what features you’re after.

If you're looking for the best budget option, consider the B650 mATX. You can typically find the B650M-HDV/M.2 on Amazon for about $90 to $100, which is a steal. Just make sure you stick to your budget and avoid spending over $120 unless absolutely necessary. If you're keen on PCIe 5.0, check out a B650E instead.

I'm trying to keep my entire build under $1100 or $1200, maybe even $1000 if I can manage. I have a Ryzen 5 9600X, and I'm looking at either the Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite Wi-Fi 7 ATX or the MSI MAG 850 Tomahawk Wi-Fi with 16GB of DDR5 RAM. What do you think?

You might be pushing it with those specs for that budget, but if you pick the right combo, you should be fine! Just keep an eye out for sales.
