I'm putting together a build featuring a 9800X3D and I need some advice on choosing the right air cooler. Here are my components:
- MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard
- Patriot Viper Venom RGB 2x24gb 6000MHz CL30 RAM
- MSI VENTUS 3X OC BLACK GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB GPU
- (2) Crucial T710 M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 drives
- MSI MPG A1000GS 1000W PSU
I've narrowed it down to three coolers:
1. Thermalright Royal Pretor 130
2. Thermalright Royal Pretor 130 Ultra Black
3. ID-COOLING FROZN A720 Black
I've heard the Royal Pretor 130 is a great value for its price, but some say the Ultra fixes fan noise issues and has an extra heat pipe. However, I've also come across comments that mention a downgrade in one of the fans in the Ultra version. Plus, people say the FROZN A720 is comparable to Noctua, but it has fit issues with specific motherboards.
Has anyone here used these coolers with the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk Wifi motherboard? What do you think would be the best option? Thanks a lot for your input!

I'd go with the Thermalright Royal Pretor 130 Ultra Black. It looks great, and for the price, it's awesome. However, you might consider the Phantom Spirit as it might provide similar performance at a lower price. Make sure your case is well-ventilated and keep your build on the floor next to your desk; the fans will be quieter that way. Also, if you're gaming, the GPU might drown out the CPU cooler's noise anyway!

Great, thanks! I plan on keeping it under my desk. I got the Dragon Knight 2 case; do you think it has good ventilation?
