Best AM4 CPU to Pair with an RTX 4070?

I've recently snagged a great deal on an RTX 4070, and I'm trying to decide which AM4 CPU would be the best fit for it. My goal is to avoid breaking the bank for an AM5 upgrade since I already have DDR4 RAM. Right now, I'm using a Ryzen 5 5500 paired with a GTX 1660. I'm open to any suggestions for CPU upgrades or even considerations for other GPU and CPU combos.

I’d suggest looking into the 5700X if you can find it for a reasonable price. A lot of games benefit from the extra cores, which the 5700X has over the 5600X. Plus, the price difference isn't huge, so it might be worth it.

Is there a significant difference between the two? I've noticed the 5600X is quite a bit cheaper in my region.

It really depends on what you're using it for. But if you're looking for an upgrade, your Ryzen 5 5500 could handle the RTX 4070, though you might not get the absolute best performance out of it. I'd recommend looking at any 5000 series CPUs, excluding the 5700 and any with ‘G’ in the name, as they'll outperform your current setup. A good bet would be the 5600, 5600X, 5700X, or even the 5800X if you find it at a decent price. The X3D chips are superior but tend to be way overpriced.

I've been eyeing a 5800X in my area, but I've heard it can run pretty hot without water cooling.
