Hey everyone! I'm currently runnning an i5 10400f and my motherboard only supports 10th and 11th Gen Intel CPUs. I'm thinking about upgrading, but I want to keep it under £200 (around $270). I'd love to hear your thoughts on the best budget CPU that would still perform well alongside an RTX 3060. Is it worth it to spend more, or should I just stick with a cheaper option?

Honestly, since you're already using an i5 10400f, I'd question why you want to upgrade. It’s decent for most tasks, but if you're struggling to hit 90fps in games like Rust or Helldivers, it might not just be the CPU; it could also be settings or other bottlenecks. If you really want more performance, considering something like the higher-tier i5s could help, but saving up for a newer platform may be a better long-term plan.
Your current setup was a bit outdated from the get-go. I’d say stick with an i5 if you stay within the 10th/11th Gen, but honestly, for the price, you might want to consider saving up for a new motherboard. Shifting to 12th or even 13th Gen would give you a significant boost for gaming. Even switching platforms to AMD might be a better idea if you're serious about gaming performance.
Yeah, I think going AMD sounds smart if you're looking for better performance. It may seem like a hassle now, but in the long run, it will pay off!
I get where you’re coming from. If you’re finding you’re capped at 90fps, maybe it’s worth tweaking some settings or checking out your cooling and power supply. But yeah, if you decide to upgrade, keep an eye on future-proofing for newer hardware!
