I'm looking to upgrade from my Intel Pentium G3240 (@ 3.10GHz) to an i7 4th generation processor. Specifically, I'm considering the i7 4790 or the 4770, but I want to find the lowest price available. Any suggestions?

Definitely consider checking eBay! You could find a compatible Xeon like the E3-1246 v3 for a great price. It'll perform almost the same as the 4790. Just make sure your motherboard can handle a Haswell Xeon — most should be fine, but do your research to verify.
I think it really depends on the specific model, but it’s worth confirming that on Intel's site. It's true some boards only support certain Intel chips.
You have access to the same online info as everyone else, but sometimes it helps to hear from people directly. Have you checked local listings for sellers? You might be able to find someone in your area.
Yeah, but I'm hoping to find someone willing to sell at a price that fits my budget; market prices are a bit high for me.

Oh, that's helpful! I’ll dig deeper into that option. Thanks! And by the way, do you think my Asus H81 motherboard can support any Xeon processors, or is that a no-go?
