Best Budget Upgrade Path for My PC

I picked up a second-hand PC from a friend a few years ago, and here are the specs: Amd Ryzen 5 2600 six-core processor running at 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM (single stick at 2666MHz), a 1TB Samsung SSD 860 Pro, NVIDIA GTX 970, and a Gigabyte B450M DS3H-CF motherboard. I have two monitors: a 24-inch 1080p at 144Hz and a 28-inch 4K at 60Hz. I'm a total newbie when it comes to PC stuff, and I'm looking to future-proof my setup. I'm planning to upgrade slowly due to budget constraints and was thinking about swapping my GTX 970 for an RTX 4070. Would that significantly improve my gaming experience, or would it be better to upgrade something else first? Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks!

If you're mainly gaming on the 4K monitor, upgrading to the RTX 4070 will definitely give you a noticeable boost. On the 1080p monitor, the difference might not be as significant. However, keep in mind that your Ryzen 5 2600 isn't the best gaming CPU nowadays. I'd recommend considering upgrading that first to a Ryzen 5600 or 5600X/XT if your motherboard supports it. Also, think about getting faster RAM in a dual-channel configuration, which can help improve performance too!

I primarily use the 1080p monitor at 144Hz, so I was leaning towards the GPU upgrade first. But now I'm wondering if focusing on the CPU might offer better overall performance instead. Can upgrading to faster RAM really change the game for both gaming and multitasking?
