How long should the setup process take for a new gaming PC?

I just bought my first gaming PC, and I'm currently stuck on an update that says, 'Your update is in progress - this could take awhile. Please keep your pc on and plugged in.' It's been at 3% for over an hour now. Is this normal? When they say 'could take awhile,' do they actually mean hours? It feels like it could take forever, like 20-30 hours at this rate!

That sounds pretty typical. Windows can be a bit weird sometimes, but it should speed up once it gets a bit further along.

It probably won't take 20-30 hours. Just leave it for a couple of hours and then check back. Also, make sure you're connected to the internet.

If your PC has an SSD, it shouldn't take that long. If it's been stuck at 3% for an hour, you might need to force shutdown by holding the power button for 5-10 seconds, then wait a moment before powering it back on. Just remember, this is the initial setup, so it shouldn't be too risky.

Be patient. The updates can take some time, especially depending on your internet speed. The progress percentages aren't always linear, so it might jump up suddenly. However, if you're still at 3% after 2-3 hours, then something might be wrong. Personally, I recommend wiping the PC and doing a fresh Windows install to get rid of the extra bloat that comes with new PCs. Creating a Windows install USB might also have some updates included already.
