Best CPU and GPU Upgrade for My Ryzen 5 and GTX 1080 Setup?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my gaming setup, which is feeling a bit old at this point. Right now, I'm using a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and an 8GB GTX 1080 graphics card. Since I've recently gotten back into gaming, I want to improve my performance without needing to change my motherboard, which is an MSI X570-A AM4. I've heard from a friend that I might just need a BIOS update to use newer CPUs.

I'm curious about the best options for both the CPU and graphics card within a budget of around £450 for the two. I've found a Ryzen 7 5700X3D for about £210 that sounds promising. As for the graphics card, I'm a bit lost since I haven't kept up to date, so any suggestions would be super helpful! Thanks a lot!

I’d recommend going with the Ryzen 5 5700X, but keep in mind it doesn't come with a CPU cooler and might require a BIOS update. For the GPU, something like the 7600XT or the RX 5060 would work, especially if you’re mainly playing at 1080p. But since you're gaming at 1440p, you might want something a bit more powerful. Check out the used market too, you can often find great deals there!

Did you mean Ryzen 7? I’m focusing mostly on games like Fortnite and CS2, and I play those at 1440p.

For that price, the 5700X3D is a solid pick! You could also consider the RX 9060XT 16GB for your GPU. It's a good choice for gaming, just check out this link: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/Xwy8TW/asus-prime-oc-radeon-rx-9060-xt-16-gb-video-card-prime-rx9060xt-o16g.

I might need to stretch my budget for the 9060, but I could probably sell my GTX 1080 for some extra cash.

Don’t forget to consider the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti. It's a great option for your budget and performance expectations!
