I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 1660 Super to an RTX 5070, but I'm still using my old CPU, an i5-9400F. I knew this would create a bottleneck, but I couldn't afford to upgrade both the CPU and GPU at the same time. Now, I'm looking for CPU recommendations to avoid throttling my performance. My current setup includes a TUF B365M-PLUS GAMING motherboard and 40GB of DDR4 RAM running at 2666MHz. I'm not interested in upgrading to DDR5 motherboards, so I need suggestions that fit within my budget of around $450 for the CPU, motherboard, and fan. Any advice?

Hey! First off, can you confirm your RAM configuration? Are you using three sticks or something? It’s good to make sure they’re all rated for 2666MHz. Also, if you're sticking with DDR4, I’d suggest looking at the AMD Ryzen 5800X. It's a solid choice and should work well with your system.
If you want a potential upgrade while keeping DDR4, you might want to check out the Intel Core i5-12600. It’s a strong performer and fits well within your budget with a decent motherboard. Just make sure to grab a good cooler since it can run hot!
Another option is to consider returning your RTX 5070 for the 9070 if it’s within your budget. It’s supposed to be a much better upgrade. Plus, you’d be looking at AM4 or LGA1700 platforms, which offer solid support for DDR4 too. If you can, saving for AM5 could be worth it in the long run!
