Best GPU Upgrade for 4K 60fps on an Older System?

I'm looking to upgrade my older gaming system built in 2019, which has a B450 motherboard, a Ryzen 5 5600x processor, a GTX 1660 ti graphics card, and 32 GB of RAM powered by a 620W PSU. My goal is to play games at 4K 60fps. I generally dive into indie games and some AAA titles like RDR2 and Fallout 76. I've been considering used cards like the RTX 3080 or the RX 6800 XT/6900 XT. Given my system's age, I'm curious if the 16GB VRAM in AMD's cards holds significant advantage over the 3080 for my gaming needs. I could manage an RTX 5070, but I worry about needing a bigger PSU, which would stretch my budget. Can anyone suggest a good GPU that would work well for 4K gaming on my older setup?

Actually, a 3060 ti is also adequate for 4K 60Hz on a single monitor if you're not pushing too hard with additional displays. I had that setup for three years without issues until I got into triple 4K monitor setups. For handling three 4K displays, the 5070ti is a solid option—it's what I’m using now.

Just a heads-up—you'll need a 4K monitor to fully enjoy that resolution! Since your system is a bit dated, you might want to go for a solid card to handle the load. Consider a 5080ti or even a 5070ti which can leverage frame generation for decent performance. That should give you playable results for 4K gaming.

For 4K 60fps with a mix of indie and older AAA games, either a used RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT would work perfectly. Both cards can handle your gaming needs well, especially if you're willing to tweak some settings. The additional VRAM on the AMD cards is mostly beneficial for newer, more demanding games, so it shouldn't be a big concern for your game library. I actually recommend leaning towards the 6800 XT if you can find it at a good price because it generally uses a bit less power compared to the 3080. What are you seeing for prices in your area?
