I'm currently running a Jellyfin server and various gaming servers on my Windows PC, but I'm looking to switch things up and build a dedicated home server with Linux. I'm a bit of a Linux newbie, though!
What would be the best Linux distribution for setting up a local file server, Jellyfin server, and a gaming server using SteamCMD? I want to run one game at a time (like Ark: Survival Ascended, Minecraft, and 7 Days to Die when it releases its 2.0 update). The server will probably be stored away, so I want to manage everything from my Windows PC. I'm okay with using the command line, but I'll need to learn how to do that effectively.

For an all-in-one solution, definitely check out CasaOS. You can start with Ubuntu Server, then run a simple command to install CasaOS. It's super user-friendly and gives you access to a variety of apps for your needs, all in one place. Perfect for someone new to Linux!
I'd recommend going with either Ubuntu Server or Debian. Proxmox and other virtualization hosts can add unnecessary complexity for your use case, especially since you're just starting out.
You might want to consider using Proxmox to separate your gaming server and combine Jellyfin with file sharing. It's a solid choice for virtualization without too much hassle. If you prefer something simpler, Debian is a great option too!
