I'm excited to dive into Linux and want to revive my old ASUS laptop that used to run Windows 7. The specs of my laptop are as follows: an Intel Core i5-460M processor (2 physical, 4 logical cores) running at 2.53-2.8 GHz, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, an Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics card with 1GB, and a 640GB SATA II HDD. Since I have no previous experience with Linux, I'm currently binge-watching videos comparing different distros. If you have any recommendations for a distro that would work well with my laptop's specifications, please share! I don't have a specific use case; I'm just looking to experiment and learn about the operating system.

Forget the videos; focus on the installation instructions for Mint instead. Just read them a few times before you dive in. It’ll make the setup process easier for you!
You should definitely check out Linux Mint with the Xfce desktop environment! It's pretty user-friendly and runs smoothly on older hardware. I have it on an Acer Aspire with 4GB RAM, and it works great!
If you're open to it, replacing the HDD with an SSD can really boost performance for any Linux flavor you choose! It's a small investment but can make a world of difference on older hardware.
MX Linux Xfce is another solid choice! It’s lightweight and is known for its performance on older machines. If you find it lagging, definitely consider checking the BIOS for updates. I had a similar setup, and Mint worked fine for me, too!
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll look into MX Linux and check for any BIOS updates.
