Best Linux Distro for Windows Converts?

I'm about to build a new PC and finally making the switch from Windows to Linux! The challenge is, with so many Linux distributions out there, I'm not sure which one to choose. I'd love something that has a similar look and feel to Windows but also comes with the benefits of owning my system. I've heard that Linux Mint Cinnamon is a good option for those migrating from Windows, but I'm also curious about Elementary. It seems more Mac-oriented, so maybe it's not the best fit for me? What do you think?

Linux Mint is often recommended for Windows users because it's user-friendly and easy to navigate. It has a familiar desktop environment, which makes transition smoother.

Is Mint compatible with Nvidia cards? I currently use Pop!_OS for the drivers but I've heard Mint has better support.

Good call! Mint is a solid choice.

I've also heard good things about Ultramarine; it's based on Fedora but is tweaked for newcomers. It was plug-and-play for me when I switched from Windows, and everything set up in under an hour!

Just a note: A Windows newbie probably won’t know what 'tweaks' are needed, so a straightforward OS is key.

Ultimately, it's about which desktop environment you prefer. While Mint is commonly recommended, don’t hesitate to try out a few distros. Your experience may vary based on personal preference!

If you're entirely new, Linux Mint really is a great starting point. I've found it very intuitive.

You could also consider trying a live USB version of different distros to see what vibes with you best!

I recommend checking out Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or Fedora with KDE. They’re great options that give you that Windows-like feel! Kubuntu especially has the right balance of features and ease of use for newcomers.

What distro comes with desktop icons and movable taskbar icons set up out of the box? Windows users will expect that right away.

I personally find Kubuntu to be better than Mint since it aligns more with what Windows users expect, but Ubuntu is still very user-friendly.

For someone looking to migrate, you might also want to try Zorin OS or MX Linux. They both have great user interfaces and are beginner-friendly! You can even test drive them online before deciding.
