Hey everyone! I'm looking to buy a new budget laptop for my dad. He's primarily going to use it for web browsing, playing online chess, and writing poetry with LibreOffice. Since he started using computers late in life and is used to Windows, I want to find a Linux distribution that's user-friendly and feels somewhat similar to Windows. I'm aiming for something that's easy to maintain and won't confuse him too much. I thought about trying Winux Operating System, but I'd love to hear your suggestions and any tips you might have. Avoid Winux if you can. It can confuse users since it tries too hard to mimic Windows. Stick with Linux Mint or something that’s less about copying Windows and more about usability. It'll be easier for you and your dad to manage.
If your dad prefers a more aesthetically pleasing setup, I'd suggest Kubuntu. It’s based on Ubuntu and has a sleek interface. It’s very beginner-friendly, and I've had zero issues using it.
Check out Aurora; it uses Fedora KDE Plasma which has a lot of similarities to Windows 10. It's stable and comes with a ton of applications readily available, making it a solid choice.
Linux Mint is a great option for your dad. While it’s not exactly a Windows clone, it has a familiar interface and is super beginner-friendly with a lot of support available.
I’d recommend either Linux Mint or Pop!_OS. They both offer a user-friendly experience while providing the tools your dad might need.
