Best Practices for Migrating from End-of-Support Linux Distros

Hey folks! I'm managing about 100 virtual machines that are currently running on end-of-support distributions, like Ubuntu 20.04 and CentOS 7 Core. I'm planning to upgrade the Ubuntu servers to a supported version, and for the CentOS 7 machines, I'm thinking about migrating to either Oracle Linux 8 or 9. Since this is my first big migration, I'd love to hear any advice, best practices, or lessons learned from anyone who has done something similar. Thanks a bunch!

I really recommend steering clear of Oracle Linux unless you have a specific requirement to use it. Many users have had issues with support and compatibility.

I don’t actually need Oracle for anything; I just want to move away from CentOS because it's end-of-support. What issues have you seen with Oracle before?

Could you explain more about why you’re not a fan of Oracle Linux?

Totally agree with what was said before. If you can, try to stick to one distribution like Rocky or Alma Linux. Keeping it simple will save you a lot of headaches down the road!

What exactly is the problem with using Oracle? I'm curious to know more!
