I'm currently using a Corsair RM850e (2023) 850W PSU with my RTX 4080S setup. However, with my upcoming RTX 5090 MSI 3x Ventus OC, I expect my total power draw to be around 860W, since I'm also running a 7800x3d build. I want to upgrade to a 1000W PSU for safety, especially considering potential GPU overclocking. I'm looking for recommendations on reliable power supplies that will keep my 5090 running safely without risking cable issues or overheating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Avoid getting a Ventus or Shadow for sure! For PSUs, I recommend checking out these models:
1. Be Quiet! Power Zone 2 - it's 1000W and gets top marks.
2. Corsair HX1200i - a strong 1200W option that’s worth every penny.
If you’re in a humid area, look into the FSP Hydro PTM X ProGen5 1200W; it’s built for that kind of environment!
I had a tough time choosing until I finally went with the MSI Ai1300P. It's a bit on the pricey side but totally worth it for peace of mind. It handles everything like a champ!
Yeah, pricing really does matter! If you can find it at a good deal compared to similar models, it’s a solid choice.
Make sure you’re at least going for 1000W for the 5090. Personally, I’d go for 1200W if you plan to use it consistently. If you’re into overclocking, consider stepping it up to a 1500W PSU; just ensure all your connectors fit snugly!
I think 1000W should be adequate if you pair it with an undervolt on the OC.
1000W ATX 3.X will do just fine for regular use. You really don’t need excess unless you’re pushing the limits. The 5090 is already super power-hungry, so definitely be cautious with overclocking on a stock setup.
What’s wrong with the MSI Ventus or Shadow? Just trying to understand!
