I'm on the lookout for effective ways to automatically manage EBS volume sizes—specifically shrinking or growing them as needed. It seems like a tricky situation, especially since many traditional methods like copying to smaller volumes can be cumbersome. I came across three vendors offering automated solutions for EBS management, but I wanted to gather some insights from others about their experiences or strategies. I'm not interested in using FSxN with deduplication or thin provisioning, just exploring options for storage management. Any thoughts?

The need to change EBS sizes really depends on your specific situation. It's usually not about the resizing itself but about the underlying issue you might be facing. If you need online resizing, consider using LVM and adding EBS physical volumes as needed.

I totally get where you're coming from! Honestly, the time spent figuring this out or paying for a service often outweighs the benefits. In my experience, most systems needing to shrink storage are extremely rare.
