Hey everyone! I've had my PC built since around 2016-2017 and it's been pretty solid, but life got in the way and I didn't maintain it like I should have. Recently, I started playing some newer games like Dragons Dogma 2, which, while not the best optimized, runs okay (around 30-40 fps in towns and 60 outdoors). I also play games like Overwatch 2 that run flawlessly at 144 fps, even on max settings.
However, I'm feeling the pressure to upgrade since some games like modded Skyrim and VR games are starting to struggle a bit. I'm perfectly content with 1080p and 60 fps, and maybe even 1440p with solid visuals if possible.
Currently, I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti and an Intel i7-8700, plus a 1000-watt EVGA power supply. I've got 40GB of RAM, a couple of 1TB SSDs, and I think my motherboard is an Asus Prime Z370 series. I'd like to know what options are out there for upgrading without breaking the bank—ideally around the same price I paid for my graphics card and processor, which was about $300 each.
Should I just update the GPU, or is a full build necessary? Any recommendations are welcome! Thanks!

You might want to consider an AM5 build for future-proofing, which could run around $400 for the motherboard and CPU without a GPU. Then you’d be looking at an additional $250 or so for a decent used GPU to really see a performance boost. You could sell your 1070 Ti for about $100, so overall you’d probably spend closer to $400 total. Just think about whether you want to invest in older tech or go for newer stuff.
Got it, I’m not entirely familiar with AM5 stuff yet, but that sounds like a plan to upgrade for the future!
