I'm looking to upgrade my PC components and have a budget of $300 to $400. Currently, I have a GTX 1050 Ti, Ryzen 5 2600X, ASUS ROG Strix B450-E Gaming motherboard, 550W PSU, and 16GB of 3200MHz RAM. My main questions are: if I upgrade my GPU, do I need to get a higher wattage PSU? And if I upgrade both the GPU and CPU, will they be compatible with my existing motherboard? Thanks for any advice!

Your 550W PSU is more than enough for your current setup and should be fine for upgrades as well. It’s great that you’re not bottlenecked currently, although you should check compatibility when picking new parts. What about going for a 6600 XT or similar?
Honestly, your system is a bit outdated, and any major upgrade could reveal some bottlenecks. If you can swing a complete rebuild later, it might be worth considering, but for now, a 6700 XT or 6600 XT could serve you well without breaking the bank.
Haha, honestly, I built this during lockdown with a limited budget!
It really depends on what specific upgrades you're considering. If you want a notable performance boost, a Ryzen 5 5600X or 5700X combo would work well. For better FPS while gaming, check out the RX 6600 XT or 6700 XT—they should fit your budget too! And good news, your 550W PSU should handle those upgrades without any issues.
Thanks for the suggestion! Do you think the RX 6650 XT would be a good choice?
I suggest getting a faster CPU like the R5 5600 and pairing it with an RX 6600. If you choose a GPU that requires more power, then it’s wise to get a better PSU, especially if you're going for something like a 6700 XT.
Thanks for the tips!
Just to clarify, it's not about voltage but wattage with the PSU. Since you mentioned having a 550W PSU, it should be adequate for most mid-range GPUs. With your budget, consider upgrading to an RX 6600 or even a 6700 XT, then plan for a Ryzen 5600X down the line.
Got it, thanks for the clarification!
Cheers!
