Best Upgrade Path for CPU, GPU, and Motherboard with DDR4 now and DDR5 later?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to give my PC a gradual upgrade, focusing on finding the right combination of CPU, GPU (aiming for a NVIDIA RTX 4060), and a motherboard. I want to reuse my current DDR4 RAM and 1080p 60Hz monitor for the time being.

Here's what I've got:
- **CPU:** Ryzen 3 1300X
- **Motherboard:** ASRock AB350 PRO4
- **GPU:** Zotac GTX 1050 Ti OC
- **RAM:** 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4
- **Storage:** WD 1TB HDD
- **PSU:** Cooler Master MWE 550 Bronze V2
- **Monitor:** LG 22" 1080p 60Hz
- **Case:** Corsair Carbide Series Mid-Tower

What I want is a motherboard that can support both DDR4 and DDR5 so I can stick with DDR4 for now and switch to DDR5 later. Is there a suitable motherboard out there for that? What would be the best CPU and mainboard combo to team up with an RTX 4060 while keeping budget in mind? Any recommendations would be super helpful! Thanks!

So, it’s actually true that you're not gonna find consumer motherboards that support both DDR4 and DDR5 simultaneously. If you're looking at AMD, you would have to switch to the AM5 platform, which only supports DDR5. But if you stick with something like LGA1700 from Intel, you can still run DDR4. I suggest getting a Ryzen 5 5600X if you want to stick with your current motherboard, but you'll need to update the BIOS.

Thanks for the clarification! It’s good to know how the DDR compatibility works. I'll look into that!

For a kickass 1080p experience, pair an ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi D4 with a Ryzen 5 5600X or a 7600X and the RTX 4060. This setup will give you smooth gaming while also leaving room for future RAM upgrades since these boards can handle either DDR4 or DDR5. Just make sure your PSU can handle at least 600W!

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely make a note of the PSU requirement. Appreciate the advice!
