Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a pickle and could really use some guidance. I recently found out my PC isn't handling Oblivion Remastered as well as I hoped. It auto-detected to high settings, but once I hit the open world, the performance tanked. I've been dealing with frustrating fps drops, even when I lower the settings to medium and tweak a few things. I've done some minor upgrades over the years, like adding a new GPU, more RAM, and an SSD, but I'm now looking for the best way to upgrade without breaking the bank. I would love to aim for 1080p at 60 fps for this game and others going forward. Currently, my setup is:
- GPU: 6600 XT
- CPU: i5-8400
- RAM: 16 GB
- Motherboard: B360M Bazooka
- PSU: 500W (might need upgrading too)
I'm leaning towards upgrading the GPU first, but I'm open to other suggestions. I'd really appreciate any advice on how to move forward, so I can continue enjoying gaming without too many hiccups! Thanks a lot!

It sounds like your CPU might be a bottleneck here. If you pick up an i7-8700 for around $80-90 on eBay, you could see a nice performance boost with the extra cores and threads. You could sell your i5-8400 for about $30 to help offset the cost. Also, don’t forget to clean up your system by disabling unnecessary background tasks like Discord and browsers – it can really help with performance!
Would I notice a big improvement from that CPU swap? I've been reading mixed reviews, and I’m not sure how much of a difference it will make.
