Best Upgrade Plan for My Aging Computer?

I'm looking to give my older computer a boost, but not sure which upgrades to tackle. Here's what I currently have: an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, a Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE motherboard, an EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 XC Ultra Gaming GPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB Intel 660p NVMe SSD, and a 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD. My monitor can display 2560x1440 at 155Hz. I'm considering upgrading the CPU to an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the GPU to an NVIDIA RTX 5070, and increasing my RAM to 32GB. I want to avoid a full system replacement. Can anyone provide advice on this upgrade plan or share what they think would make the most difference?

With your setup already at 1440p, I’d focus first on the GPU. Your RTX 2070 might be the bottleneck because 1440p can be demanding. You might want to look into the 6700XT if you find it for a good deal. As for the CPU, if you can’t find the 5800X3D, the 5700X is a good budget option and would pair well with a new GPU.

Yeah, the prices for the 5800X3D are just crazy right now. I saw them listed for $850! Definitely consider the 5700X instead.

If you can find the 5800X3D at a reasonable price, I'd say it's a solid choice. But if it’s too pricey, consider the 5900X or even the 5800X as alternatives. Upgrading to the RTX 5070 sounds about right for your 1440p gaming, and going for 32GB of RAM can definitely help your performance. It should be a good upgrade plan overall!
