Best Way to Connect Your Linux PC to a TV for Media Playback?

I'm trying to set up a Linux PC to connect to my TV for media playback, but I'm hitting a wall. I've tried using an old laptop and a mini PC, but neither of them outputted sound through HDMI. I've experimented with different Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, and Mint, but I'm running into the same sound issue every time. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help me get this sorted?

You might just need to switch the sound output source to HDMI in your settings. It's a common hiccup across different distros and setups, so try checking that out!

I've been using Zorin Pro 17.3 with no issues. Just installed it, plugged it into the TV via HDMI, and adjusted the sound output from Speakers to HDMI. Super simple!

I've had great luck with different distros working out of the box for HDMI. It might be something with your TV if you're not getting sound. Have you tried switching HDMI ports?

Good suggestion! Sometimes the ports can mess up, especially older TVs.

I picked up a cheap AMD mini PC from Amazon and installed Solus Plasma. It's been my streaming and retro gaming setup for about four years now with zero issues! Maybe consider a similar setup?

Sounds reliable! Getting a solid setup like that made a big difference for me too.

I recently got a mini N100 PC for running Plex and Jellyfin. I faced sound issues when using Linux Mint, but I found this audio app that helped route the sound through HDMI. It seems like installing proper audio drivers makes a big difference!
