Hey everyone, I'm currently running an R5 3600 processor with a micro ATX motherboard, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and I'm using an 8GB 5700XT for now. I'm planning to upgrade my GPU to the 9070XT but I know my CPU might bottleneck the performance. I intend to upgrade my PSU, motherboard, and RAM next year, but for now, I'm wondering if my 650W Silverstone Gold-rated PSU can handle the 9070XT alongside the R5 3600. I used a PSU calculator from Cooler Master and it estimated a total power draw of around 465W. What do you all think?

Just a heads up, the R5 3600 might struggle a bit with the 9070XT, but it shouldn’t fry your CPU or anything. Just keep an eye on performance when you upgrade!

Is there a chance my CPU could seriously fail?

For best results, make sure you're using two separate PCI-E cables for the GPU, especially since the 9070XT has high power spikes. This way, you're covered if you're gaming at 1440p!

Honestly, if you can, consider waiting and getting a more powerful PSU. It’s generally recommended to go for at least 750W for the 9070XT to keep things stable, especially if you plan to upgrade your CPU next year.

You should be fine! If you run into any issues, you can always tweak the power limit a bit.

How exactly do you lower the power limit?

Answered By OldTimerPC On

I've been there! I used a 600W PSU and kept my GPU power limit at 30% less while waiting for a new PSU, and it worked without any noticeable drop in performance.
