Can a Charging Cable Overheat After Just 7 Months?

Hey everyone, I'm new here and could really use some advice! I've got a Samsung S24+ and I've been using a 10-foot braided USB-C to USB-C cable I picked up from Target about 7 months ago. Recently, I've noticed that my phone isn't charging correctly with this cable. Oddly enough, one end of the cable gets really hot while the other end stays cool. My phone charges just fine with other chargers, so I'm pretty certain it's an issue with this specific cable. Is it normal for cables to start heating up like this? Should I just toss it and buy a new one? Also, what are some recommendations for durable 10-foot braided cables that actually last? Thanks for your help!

Honestly, 7 months isn't a super long time for a cable, but it's definitely not unheard of for them to fail, especially if they're getting hot like you described. You should probably replace it before it does any damage to your phone. Overheating isn’t normal!

Agreed, overheating is a sign of trouble. Better to be safe and get a new one.

Definitely replace the cable! It shouldn’t be getting excessively hot; that could be a fire hazard. Don't risk it!

Exactly, it's just not worth the risk. Get a new one and keep it safe!

Make sure the cable is rated for your phone's power draw. It sounds like your cable isn’t handling it well and that's causing the heat. Some brands, like Anker, are known to be sturdy and reliable for long-term use. I’ve had some of their braided cables for a while now without issues!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check out Anker since I've had better luck with A to C cables in the past.
