Recently, my PC has been freezing randomly, so I took it to a repair shop. They said my CPU is quite damaged due to overheating, which might have also affected my SSD and possibly even the motherboard. The technician mentioned that dust buildup and old thermal paste were the culprits. I usually clean my PC and apply new thermal paste about once a year, but is that enough to cause this level of damage? I bought my Ryzen 7 5800x just a year ago, and though there was some dust in my PC, this seems like a lot of damage for just that. I'm curious to hear what you think about it.

I think it’s a good idea to get a second opinion from another technician. Generally, one year of usage shouldn't cause that much damage, especially if you maintained it somewhat regularly.
Cleaning out the dust is super important and needs to be done regularly. If your room’s really dusty or you have pets, you should be dusting the outside at least once a week and the inside once or twice a month. Applying thermal paste yearly is usually fine, though some people don’t do it that often if their setup is relatively clean. You might want to check with another technician just in case.
