Can hovering over a Twitch link on Twitter get me hacked?

I was browsing Twitter and accidentally hovered over a Twitch link from an artist I don't know. While hovering, I saw some text pop up but didn't catch it fully before I moved my mouse away. Now I'm worried I might have been hacked! I've heard that Windows 11 can somehow download malware just by hovering. Am I safe, or did I accidentally download something?

That's right! When you hover over a link, it usually shows you the actual URL in the bottom corner of your browser. If it looks suspicious, it's best not to click on it. But just hovering is harmless.

Also, just to clarify, all you likely saw was a preview of the link address. It’s a normal feature on computers to show you where a hyperlink leads when you hover over it. There's no risk involved unless you click and install something.

No need to worry! Just hovering over a link on Twitter won’t hack you or download anything. The idea that Windows 11 automatically pulls malware just because you hovered over a link is a myth. You’d only be at risk if you clicked the link and then ran something harmful. You're totally safe!
