Can I apply thermal paste to my new CPU and wait two months to power it on?

Hey everyone, I'm building my first PC and I'm super excited! I've got all the components ready, but I'm still waiting on my peripherals like the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, which will take about 2 months to arrive. I really want to assemble everything now, including applying thermal paste to the CPU, but I won't actually turn it on until I have the peripherals. Is that okay? Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but I'm just trying to make sure I'm doing everything right!

Sure, but keep in mind that thermal paste can dry out over time. If you’re just going to let it sit there for two months, you might want to consider waiting to apply the paste until you're ready to turn it on. You can assemble the rest of the PC without the paste to save some life on it!

It's fine to assemble your PC early, especially if you're going to mount the cooler as well. Just make sure that the cooler is securely in place, so the CPU doesn't just sit there exposed with paste on it for two months. If you can, try to borrow some peripherals to test everything out before your return period is up, just for peace of mind!

Honestly, I've built many PCs and I've never had to repaste unless I was changing a cooler. Once the paste is applied and the cooler is on, it's usually good to go for a long time. Just make sure to keep everything clean and free from dust while you wait.
