Can I Build a Linux Server from Old Computer Parts?

I'm curious if I can collect old computer parts and set up a server using Linux. I've never used Linux before and I'd rather not put it on my main system, so I'm looking to repurpose some of my old components. I have a couple of goals in mind: one is to create a chat program for me and my friends, and the other is to host a server for Minecraft (and potentially Hytale when it comes out). I've done some research online, but I still feel lost about what I need and how to start. I'm interested in any tips or suggestions that could help me form a clear plan for this project.

You can definitely set up a Minecraft server with older parts! Just make sure you have at least 2GB of RAM, as more is better. The storage size depends on how big you plan your worlds to be, but old HDDs are super cheap these days. If you want to get familiar with Linux, try installing it in a Virtual Machine (VM) on your main computer. Use VirtualBox, grab an ISO for Ubuntu Server or Debian, and follow a guide to set up your Minecraft server there. It’ll give you some hands-on experience!

Thanks for the suggestion, buddy. I'll give it a try.
