Can I Build a PC by Choosing the Case First to Stick to a Budget?

I'm curious if it's possible to choose my case before selecting the components of my PC. I've heard that usually, you pick the parts first. Is it feasible to approach it the other way around to keep within a specific budget? If so, could anyone suggest some good smaller cases?

True, if you're aiming for a smaller case, starting with an ITX or MicroATX motherboard might be a good idea based on your needs for expansion slots. Keep in mind that ITX cases vary quite a bit in dimensions, so it’s wise to choose your case before locking in a larger GPU or water cooling systems.

Generally, smaller builds tend to be pricier, but starting with the case first is a common strategy, especially for Mini ITX or MATX setups. If you're looking for recommendations, the Fractal Terra is quite popular among Mini ITX cases.

I actually agree with the point that as cases shrink and include more features, the prices can increase. Jonsbo has some nice options designed specifically to accommodate various motherboard sizes, so exploring their range might help you maintain a budget while still getting an attractive case.

You can technically build however you like, but if you're on a budget, going microATX is about the smallest you might get without hiccups. Just remember, going smaller could mean fewer parts due to cost.

How small are you thinking? If you want to maintain a compact build, both the Lian Li TU150 for Mini ITX and the Lian Li A3 for microATX are solid options as they fit most standard GPUs.
