Hey everyone! I've got a bit of a tech question. My current SSD is almost full (about 100 GB left) and I need a new one. My friend has an old NVMe SSD from his recent build that he doesn't plan to use anymore, and he's offered it to me. Can I just install it in the second slot and delete all of his old files, or do I need to format it first since it might still have an operating system on it?

If the SSD has Windows on it, you'll probably need to delete some partitions first. I just did this with an NVMe from a laptop, and I used EaseUS partition manager to delete everything and then format it. It's pretty straightforward.
I'm just a little worried that when I turn on my PC, it might boot from the NVMe instead of my current one. Is that an issue?
You can also use Windows' built-in disk management to delete the partitions directly. If you're unsure, simulating a Windows 10 installation and selecting the NVMe as the target disk will let you delete any partitions too.
