Can I Move an SSD with Linux Installed into Another Laptop?

I have Pop OS installed on a 1TB SSD from an old laptop, and I'm thinking about moving it into my gaming laptop, which only has one drive slot available. Since the OS was set up with different hardware, will it boot properly in my gaming laptop? I'm worried about potential driver issues or other complications that might arise from this swap.

I've switched SSDs between laptops a few times without any issues. Just double-check that any drivers or firmware are installed on the drive beforehand. Once you move it, it should boot up without a hitch.

Go for it! It should work fine. I’ve done it with a USB stick that has Linux installed—basically like having a computer on a stick. As long as the drivers are compatible, Linux will recognize the new hardware and keep on running.

Yes, you can usually move the SSD between different systems. The boot manager is quite adaptable and will mostly not be affected by moving to a different model. Just make sure to shut down properly and save everything before switching it out.

I moved my SSD from an HP to a Dell recently, and it worked perfectly. After shifting it, I ensured there was an internet connection in case I needed to install any extra drivers. Everything worked smoothly, even the touchscreen features! If you’re switching to a laptop with Windows, just check the BIOS settings for things like secure boot and you should be fine.

So if I switch it to a Windows laptop, will it boot straight into Linux? Do I need to adjust anything in BIOS just to get it going?
