I'm trying to figure out how to play Grand Theft Auto V online on Linux using the Epic Games launcher. I've searched around, but most guides I found are outdated by a few years. I tried using Heroic to launch the game, but it just wouldn't work for me. Can anyone provide a clear explanation of how I might get this set up?

Simply put: you don’t. No online play for GTA V on Linux right now.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to play GTA Online on Linux anymore. Rockstar has implemented a kernel-level anti-cheat system that blocks access for Linux users. It’s quite frustrating!

What’s the reasoning behind that? There are still cheaters anyway, right?

It's wild how they chose that method, seems like a drastic approach that doesn’t really solve the issue.

At this point, the only option is to play offline since Rockstar has completely shut down online access for Linux users due to their policies. No luck here.

You can run the story mode without issues, but the online component is a no-go for Linux. Rockstar's use of BattleEye with improper support for Linux is what blocks it.

I managed to get story mode running using Bottles, so I guess it’s a configuration thing for Online.

Does this mean Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the same boat? I wanted to jump back into the campaign.
