Can I recover deleted photos from my old digital camera’s SD card?

I recently turned on my old Olympus digital camera from the late 2000s and was excited to take some photos. Unfortunately, the camera couldn't save the images due to an issue with the SD card. In my attempt to fix the problem, I formatted the card without fully thinking it through and now all my photos are gone. I'm wondering if there's a way to recover these deleted photos. Are there any programs I can use on my PC or laptop that can help me out? Ideally, I'd like to find some free options. Also, how long do I have before it's too late to recover them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First off, don't panic! As long as you haven't added more data to the SD card, there's definitely hope for recovery. I've had great luck with Image Rescue 3—it's free on Archive.org. Just make sure you don't write anything else to the card before you try to recover your files!

I wish I hadn't taken a couple of test photos after formatting! Does that mean I'm out of luck now?

You've got a shot at recovery as long as the card hasn't been overwritten. I've had success with the free version of Recuva; it's user-friendly and does a solid job. You really don't need to pay for the Pro version unless you want advanced features.

Oh man, I took a couple of test photos thinking it would fix things. Am I screwed now?
