Can I Recover My Files from a Sent Hard Drive?

Hey everyone! I'm really hoping to get some insight on a frustrating situation I'm dealing with. I recently moved to another country and had to leave my Windows 10 desktop behind. I was storing important files like 3D models and photos in the 'Roaming' folder under 'AppData.' Before I relocated, my aunt suggested I send the hard drive to her so I wouldn't lose any files. Unfortunately, after trying to transfer the files a couple of times, I've found nothing but strange files instead of my precious content. I even had her check if my files were still on the old PC, and they were! But now, they seem to be gone. My aunt is once again trying to have the hard drive accessed by others in her office to recover them. What are the chances that I'll be able to retrieve my lost files? Any advice or thoughts would mean a lot!

It sounds like a real mess, but there’s still hope! Each user on a Windows system has their own separate AppData folder. If someone else has been using that computer, they may have logged in as a different user, which means your files would still be under your username's folder. Make sure your aunt gives them a shout for your entire user profile, not just the Roaming folder. Your files could still be hidden in the 'C:UsersKevinLin' path. It's worth checking out!

So if I get the full user folder and not just AppData, I might find my stuff? I really hope they show up!

I understand how frustrating this must be! The last time your files were accessed, they should technically still be there if no one manually deleted them. When your aunt sends the hard drive again, ask the people at the store specifically to look for the entire user folder instead of just the roaming files. Just keep your fingers crossed that nothing was overwritten!

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely ask about the entire user folder this time. I'm trying to stay optimistic!
