Can I Reuse My Custom Cables When Upgrading My PSU?

Hey everyone! I built my PC last November with an RTX 4080 Super and a 7800X3D. I initially aimed for a budget build but ended up upgrading as I went along. I installed Noctua fans to keep the system quiet, but my PSU (the MSI MAG A850GL) is unfortunately the loudest component. I had custom cable replacements made so everything looks slick and black, and I've been told I can use these cables with other MSI power supplies in the same line. Is that accurate? I'm wondering if I can upgrade my PSU and still use the same cables. Thanks!

It's true that some power supply manufacturers can change the pinouts over time or even across different lines. While you might be okay using your custom cables if you're staying within the same line and year, it’s best to double-check the pinouts first to avoid any issues, like frying your components. You might want to see if MSI has a compatibility list similar to Corsair's.

I had the same issue with an MSI A750GL. I couldn’t figure out why Corsair PSUs were so quiet while MSI's were so loud. I decided to ditch MSI after that. If you're thinking about the MPG A1000G, it's known to be much quieter! But if the thought of unplugging everything stresses you out, just stick with what you have for now.

I'd say it's a bit risky to reuse those custom cables without verifying the pinouts with a multimeter. Better safe than sorry!
