Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a tricky situation at work. I'm the go-to person for IT stuff, and I've got to replace our old Windows Server 2008 R2 with a new Server 2019. The problem is, our current domain is set up with the .local name, which isn't ideal. I'm wondering if it's possible to create a new domain with a different name while setting up the server. Also, would I be able to keep the workstations connected to the new domain, or will I have to recreate all user accounts from scratch? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I get where you're coming from! I've been in a similar position where my company name changed and we need to drop the .local domain. I've been thinking about doing it for over a year now; time just flies!
You should seriously consider sticking with the .local for now and add a new Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) alongside it. It's a big job, and honestly, it might be worth hiring a local IT company to help with the transition. They can guide you through the server replacement project without the headache!
Thanks for your response! I'll look into getting an MSP to assist.
