Can I Set Up Dual Monitors with MSI Z790-P Without Using VGA?

I'm using an MSI Z790-P DDR5 motherboard with a Core i7 14700K, and I've got one monitor connected via HDMI which works perfectly. However, I'm having trouble connecting a second monitor. When I try to use the HDMI to USB-C connection, the second monitor doesn't display anything. Is this expected behavior? Is there a way to set up dual monitors using this setup without relying on VGA? Thanks in advance for any help!

For your second monitor, just go with DisplayPort. The USB-C on that motherboard is only for data transfer, so it won't carry video signals. That should solve your problem!

Great, I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the advice!

If you have a dedicated GPU, make sure to plug both monitors into it instead. The motherboard itself doesn't support VGA, but it does have HDMI and DisplayPort options. Using a DisplayPort connection for the second monitor should work fine!

Okay nice, thanks! I'll try using DisplayPort.

Honestly, you shouldn't even be considering VGA since that board doesn't have it. It supports HDMI and DisplayPort, and from the specs, the USB-C is just for data, not video. If you're using the integrated GPU, grab a DisplayPort adapter if necessary and you'll be all set!
