Hey everyone! I'm looking for some help with a laptop repair issue. I have an HP Pavilion with a dead motherboard that originally came with a Ryzen 5 processor. The repair shop told me they couldn't find a replacement for the Ryzen 5 motherboard, but they have a Ryzen 7 motherboard available. My questions are: 1) Is it okay to swap out the Ryzen 5 motherboard for the Ryzen 7? Will it fit in the same laptop chassis and account for thermals and connections? 2) Will I need to change my RAM? The repair guy mentioned something about RAM differences for the Ryzen 7, and I currently have DDR4 RAM from the Ryzen 5 setup. I'd appreciate any advice from those who know about this stuff. I really want to avoid compatibility issues and unnecessary expenses. Thanks!

Just a heads up, there’s a lot of marketing buzz around AMD processors. You’ve likely got a Ryzen 5 5600U, and the Ryzen 7 option is probably the 5800U. The even-numbered CPUs generally perform better in multi-threaded tasks. Make sure to double-check specs when swapping parts!
You should be fine as long as the Ryzen 7 motherboard supports the same laptop series. Typically, the RAM shouldn't be a problem, as both the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 CPUs from the same generation usually use the same DDR4 RAM.
But I heard the Ryzen 7 might support DDR5 RAM too. Just make sure your current DDR4 is compatible.
