Can I Transfer SSDs from My Laptop to My New Gaming PC Without Issues?

I recently bought a prebuilt gaming PC, and I'm considering transferring two M.2 SSD drives from my old laptop. One of these drives has my operating system and the other contains games and various files. I haven't turned on the new PC yet, and I'm worried about potential boot conflicts. If I install my old SSDs, will the new system automatically boot from the drive that comes with it, or will I need to change anything in the BIOS? Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can just install your SSD without issues! Your new gaming PC will boot from its original drive, but if you want to boot from your laptop's drive later, just adjust the boot order in the BIOS. Just a heads up, some of your games might not start due to different setups. If those games are cloud-based, you should be fine since your progress is saved online. For any other games, back up your save files so you can easily reinstall them later.

I get what you mean! I thought I was a newbie too, but I've got a few tips up my sleeve. Appreciate the reassurance!

It’s a bit tricky. With secure boot and different drivers, you might face some challenges. Make sure Bitlocker is off before switching those drives. If your new PC only has two NVME slots, install the data SSD in the second slot. If you have three slots, that’s great! You can install both SSDs but keep the one with Windows as your primary drive for a smoother experience.

Good call on turning off Bitlocker—it'll save you some headaches. Also, extra m.2 slots are great! Just be careful when removing the video card; make sure you do it gently.

Nice to know you have a few slots! Should be straightforward then. Just double-check those connections when you install.
