Can I Upgrade My GPU First on an Old PC?

Hey everyone! I've got a PC that's about 8 or 9 years old, and I've been a console player for the past 5 years. Now, I'm looking to make the switch back to PC gaming soon. Here are my current specs:
- CPU: i5 6600k
- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1070
- RAM: 16GB DDR4
- Motherboard: ROG Maximus IX

My question is, can I upgrade my GPU first to enhance my gaming experience while I save up for other parts? Will this even make a difference, or is it a waste of time?

I'm not an expert, but it's worth noting that if you're on a budget, you might want to think about upgrading your motherboard and CPU eventually, too. It really depends on what you want to play and the resolution you’re aiming for, which I'm guessing is 1080p right now.

Yeah, I'm not looking to play all the latest games since I have a backlog. I’m planning to buy a new GPU first and then maybe some RAM and an SSD later. I’m targeting 4K gaming, and I already got the monitor. Would getting the RX 9070 XT be a good option?

Absolutely! Upgrading your GPU is a solid move, but don't expect miracles like hitting 60fps at 4K. It'll definitely help, but you'll hit some limits due to the older CPU.
