Can I Upgrade My Graphics Card to an RTX 5050 with My Current Setup?

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about upgrading my PC and would like to know if I can just swap out my graphics card. Here's what I currently have:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500X
- Motherboard: MSI A520M-A PRO
- Power Supply: Xilence XP600R6
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super

I'm looking to play newer games like Clair Obscur or FFVII Rebirth. I've done some research and I'm considering the Asus DUAL OC GeForce RTX 5050 8GB. However, I'm not sure if my power supply is up to the task. It has a peak power of 600W but a combined power of 450W, and I read ASUS recommends a 550W supply. Is my power supply sufficient?

Also, is it worth it to only upgrade the graphics card while leaving everything else as is? Thanks for any insights!

Upgrade from the 1660 Super to the 5050 is definitely worth it! But have you thought about getting an Intel B580 12GB instead? It might be a better overall experience depending on your budget.

That’s a solid option! But also, don’t overlook the RTX 5060 if you can swing the extra bucks.

Honestly, I think the RTX 5050 is a decent upgrade from the 1660 Super, giving you roughly double the FPS. But if you can afford a bit more, consider the RTX 5060 for even better performance. Just a heads up, your PSU seems a bit sketchy, so keep that in mind for the long run!

Totally agree! If you can swing it, definitely go for the 5060 instead.

Your PSU should be fine since the GTX 1660 Super runs at 125W and the RTX 5050 is only a bit higher at 130W. Just make sure it’s not too old!

Yeah, but I’d still suggest looking into getting a more reliable PSU eventually.

If I were you, I’d really consider checking out used GPUs. A used RTX 3070 might be available for a good price and offers performance similar to the 5060. Plus, used parts can often save you some cash!
