I'm considering upgrading the RAM and SSD on my HP 15-fc0156AU laptop, which has an AMD Ryzen 5 7520U processor and comes with 16GB of pre-installed RAM. I'm curious if I can push it to 32GB or at least 24GB, given that one slot might be used for an 8GB module without running in dual-channel mode. Additionally, I'm wondering about upgrading the SSD from 512GB to 1TB. Any advice on these upgrades?

Unfortunately, the RAM on the HP 15-fc0156AU isn't upgradeable because it’s soldered in as LPDDR5. So you’re stuck with that 16GB. However, you can upgrade the storage since there's an M.2 2280 NVMe slot available! You can use Gen 4 SSDs, but they'll run at Gen 3 speeds due to the processor's capabilities.
If you need more storage, definitely go for it! Just look for a good Gen 3 SSD.
If RAM upgrade isn't an option, consider investing in a high-performance SSD that offers fast read and write speeds. It can really help improve your laptop's overall performance for things like loading time and multitasking.
You’re right to check your options. Theoretically, you should be able to upgrade to a total of 32GB if your BIOS supports it. But, since HP tends to solder RAM on models like yours, it's most likely not possible. For the SSD, upgrading definitely seems feasible, but make sure to back everything up because switching drives can sometimes lead to losing access to drivers and your recovery partition.
That's a long way to say RAM is stuck. Guess SSD upgrade is the way to go.
Thanks for clarifying! I’ll probably lean towards the SSD upgrade.

So, is it worth getting a new SSD then?
