Can I Use a Single USB Flash Drive to Unlock Multiple Windows PCs?

I'm working at a school with several computers, and we're looking for a way to keep them secure. Our goal is to have a single USB flash drive that, when plugged in by a teacher, will unlock any of the computers from the login screen. We want to ensure that students can't access the in-class computers unsupervised. Any suggestions on how to set this up?

There are loads of better options available, like using GoGuardian or similar software, which can manage access and monitoring more effectively than just a USB drive.

So you're looking for a way to log into Windows with a flash drive involved? Just to clarify, it wouldn't just be input; the idea is to have the machine automatically unlock once the drive is plugged in.

Exactly, just plug it in and it unlocks right away as it recognizes the drive!

It sounds like you're after something like smartcard authentication or FIDO2 login. Using a regular USB key for this might not be straightforward, but you could look into solutions like Yubico that offer detailed guides on setting up USB keys for Windows login access. It's definitely worth checking out!

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll definitely explore that option.
