I'm looking at a Sylvania SSC509D 9" TV/DVD Combo Gaming CRT on FB Marketplace. I'm not too tech-savvy and want to make sure I can use it before buying. 1. Will it play modern DVDs? 2. Can I hook up my GameCube to it? I don't want to waste money on something if it won't work. Thanks for any help!

Great question! For DVDs, you should be fine since this TV is capable of playing them. However, it won’t work with modern Blu-ray discs. As for your GameCube, it really depends on the connectors at the back of the TV. If it has red, white, and yellow RCA jacks, you’re good to go! If you can, share a photo of the back to be sure.
Totally can still find DVDs! They’re still being sold alongside Blu-rays at electronics stores. And from what I found, the Sylvania SSC509D will connect just fine to your GameCube with the right RCA cables.
This TV looks like a solid choice for retro gaming! It has composite and RF inputs, which means it’ll work with devices using red, white, and yellow RCA cables. Just check if your GameCube has the right connection—if it’s got three RCA jacks, you’re golden! Remember, it won’t support HDMI or anything too modern.
It’s always fun to hunt for these older TVs! They can be a steal at thrift shops. I’ve seen them basically giving away CRTs because they want to clear space.
Just a heads up: if you’re planning to connect a Blu-ray player in the future, it won’t work with this TV. But if you're just into the nostalgic DVD and GameCube experience, then this setup could be pretty neat!
I’d love to help with a pic of the back! But I’m stuck here—maybe DM me if you can?
