I'm in a bit of a jam here, since my router isn't in my room and I can't directly plug my ethernet cable into it. I'm wondering if I can use a WiFi extender to connect the ethernet cable there instead. Should I also invest in a WiFi antenna to connect to the extender? Or does anyone have any other suggestions that might work better?

Some motherboards come with built-in WiFi, so you might want to consider getting one of those if you’re looking to avoid extra cables.
You could look into a powerline ethernet adapter. It uses your home's electrical wiring to transmit internet signals. I had a good experience with the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Starter Kit. It might be a solid solution for you!
I use a WiFi booster that has an ethernet port. It gives me decent performance, even though my setup is upstairs and the router's in the basement. Just keep in mind that while it generally works well, my download speeds can be painfully slow sometimes.
A TP Link Powerline WiFi Extender can be a good solution! They’re easy to set up. You’d need one unit near your router to connect via ethernet, and the second unit can be in your room. It gives you a solid WiFi signal and can also provide an ethernet port for your TV or console.
I’ve noticed a bit of lag when I connect wirelessly, especially with games. But when I plug in directly, it's smooth sailing, though downloads can take ages if they're large.
