I'm looking to transfer large files quickly from my iPhone and iPad to an external drive. I'm not sure whether to go for an SSD or an HDD, and I'm hoping to get some recommendations. Are there any risks of failure with either option? Which one tends to work better?

In terms of recommendations, I'd go for an SSD, especially if speed is your main goal. They tend to be faster and more reliable than HDDs, though the latter typically offers more storage for less money. Just keep in mind that if you're using older iPhones like the 14 or earlier, you'll experience slow downs with those lightning cables.

Yeah, SSDs are the way to go if you can, especially for big transfers.
