Can I Use an NVMe SSD with My Motherboard?

Hey everyone! I'm a bit new to NVMe SSDs and I could use some help. I have a Gigabyte B450M DS3H WIFI motherboard, and I want to add an M.2 NVMe drive. The specs say it supports 1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe x4/x2 SSD). I noticed that the drive I want to buy has a single slot, but in the images on the Gigabyte website, they show NVMe drives with two slots on the connector. I'm a bit confused here. Can I use a drive like the Oirco X7000 with my motherboard? Also, does the speed difference in NVMe SSDs really make a significant impact? For context, I'll be using the computer for everyday tasks and some large numerical simulations. Thanks in advance!

Your motherboard supports PCIe Gen 3 NVMe drives, so the Oirco X7000 should work just fine! If you're looking for value, consider the MP44L, VP4300 Lite, or C910 as good options for a budget. Just a heads up, once you get into NVMe drives, most people won’t notice a big difference in speeds for everyday tasks or gaming. Faster speeds are more beneficial for heavy productivity tasks, like video editing or large simulations.

The single notch on the X7000 signifies it's M-key compatible. Your motherboard's connector is set up to only allow M-key cards, so you won't have any issues inserting it. The two notches you see in the stock image probably indicate an M-key and A-key design, but just make sure you're using M-key for your setup. As for speed, if you're using it mainly for daily tasks, the difference between 5000 MB/s and 7500 MB/s isn't usually noticeable—so a Gen 3 drive could serve you well.
