Can I Use an Onn DVD Player as an External Disc Drive for My PC?

I recently got an Onn DVD player from my grandma as a gift, but it turns out that it's just a standalone DVD player, not a disc drive for my computer. Is there any way I can connect this DVD player to my PC, or am I stuck with just having an extra player? I'd prefer not to deal with capture cards if possible.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to connect that Onn DVD player to your computer as an external drive. The internal components don't have a standard PC interface like SATA or IDE. If you're looking for a way to read discs on your PC, I recommend getting a USB DVD drive instead; they're pretty affordable on Amazon.

Honestly, those DVD players are meant to be used with TVs, so no luck there. As for the cost, buying a new USB drive would be way cheaper than any capture card you might consider.

In the end, it's probably best to either keep it as a backup player or let it go since USB drives are really inexpensive these days. You don't need to complicate things!

Unless the DVD player is specifically designed to connect to a computer, it's pretty much a no-go for that. The technology inside is made for TV connections. You might just want to hold onto it for nostalgia or consider giving it away.

If your aim is to use it for data CDs or DVDs, then sorry, that's not going to work. But if you just want to watch movies or listen to music from CDs on your computer, you'll still need a capture card to do that.
