Can I Use CPU Cables from Another PSU?

I recently bought an ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Gold Aura Edition PSU, but it came without the CPU 4+4 pin cables. I have a cable from an ASUS ROG Strix 850W Gold Aura Edition PSU lying around. Is it safe to use that cable with my new PSU, or will it cause any issues?

There was this instance with Corsair where the same model had different suppliers using different pinouts, which is really concerning. Without confirmation from ASUS or official documentation, I wouldn’t take any chances.

It's crucial to contact ASUS directly for confirmation. Cables are not standardized, and using one from a different PSU could potentially fry your setup, which you definitely don’t want to do!

While it’s always best to use the original cables, these two PSUs are compatible with each other. You should be fine swapping the cables as long as you’ve verified their compatibility. Just double-check to be sure! 🙂

Thanks! That really helps!

Usually, it's risky to mix cables from different PSU models because they may have different pinouts. If you don't feel comfortable checking the pinout charts or comparing them, it's best to just buy a new set of cables. A mismatched cable could fry your components if things don't line up correctly. Just play it safe!

Yeah, many brands don’t maintain the same pinouts even within their own product lines. If you really want to check, I’d suggest looking for a pinout chart before you make any changes.

Or you could always consider using a multimeter to test the cables if you have older components around to risk!
